How to Get Gas at the County Yard

After searches, some people who are entitled to get gas at the County Yard have hesitated because they didn’t know how. Here are the instructions (but no combinations).

1. If the yard gates are locked, look for the one with a combination lock on it. As of May 2000, it was the eastern-most gate on Headington Road.

2. Key cards are required to operate the pumps. The SAR cards are in a locked box labeled SAR at the east end of the gasoline pumps. Enter the combination and open the box.

3. There are separate cards for gas and diesel in the box, one pair (blue and yellow) for each.

4. There’s a card reader at the opposite end of the island. Hold the blue and yellow cards with the bevels together. Insert the cards long edge first, bevel on the left.

5. Answer the card reader’s questions:

Enter Mileage: Enter your SAR ID number with enough zeros in front to make five digits. (That is, if you’re ID number is 23, enter 00023). Press the green Enter key.

Enter Acct #: The account number for WS SAR is on the sheet below the card reader. (If the sheet is gone, as of May 2000 our account number was 241550.) Enter the account number and press Enter.

Enter Pump #: Enter the number of the pump you’re using and press Enter.

6. Remove the cards and pump the gas.

7. When you’re done, write your name, the date and the number of gallons on the clipboard.

8. Put back the cards and clipboard and lock the box. Don’t forget your gas cap.
