El Dorado County Search and Rescue celebrated the grand opening and dedication of our new facility generously donated by the Cedar Grove Community members. Tours of the facility and the formal dedication were held on Sunday, October 11, 1998. The public was invited and refreshments were served.
Purpose
The ESARC Lodge Committee has determined the following purpose of the new ESARC Lodge. The Lodge shall be used for activities that:
- Promote the education and progress of El Dorado Search & Rescue
- Support volunteer groups that SAR works with and depends on
- Enhance the general health and safety of the community
Education Center for SAR - Located on an acre of land in a rural area, the ESARC Lodge is well suited for both classroom training and outdoor practice. Training ordinary people to be lifesavers is a SAR specialty. In our year-round training program, volunteers learn tracking, survival, wilderness navigation, radios, first aid and other subjects. SAR members learn not only how to travel safely in the wilderness, but how to find and rescue someone else at the same time.
Meeting Center for SAR - The day to day business of SAR and its numerous projects requires frequent small meetings of from 5 to 25 people. The Lodge can provide space for these groups, plus secure 24-hour storage for the supplies and office equipment they need.
Training Venue for Other Volunteer Groups - The Lodge will be offered to other volunteer organizations for their training events at no charge. SAR often works side by side with other volunteer groups, such as STAR and the USFS Nordic Ski Patrol. Sharing our training facilities with them not only promotes everyones safety in the wilderness, but fosters good relations and makes the most efficient use of scarce resources.
Community Education Facility - We plan to offer the Lodge for community training and public service events. The Lodge is well suited to First Aid courses, CPR classes, and other community education events.
