Bear River Resort SAR
May 2000

It's 1:30 in the morning on Sunday (May 25, 2000) and I have this dream about my pager going dead, so I get up and as I'm doing so, it goes off again. Now I realize that it's not dead batteries, and that we have a real call. I call the voicemail and it's Todd's delightful voice saying that we have a mutual aid call for Amador County. We are told to meet at 5:30 a.m. at Caltrans for a trip over into the Bear River Reservoir.

We arrived at staging at 6:45 and are given a description of the missing subject, here is what we were told: 15,16 or 17 year old boy with height around 5'4" or 5'5", possibly wearing Adidas shoes. His first name is probably Alan, and he also may be Hispanic.

Going off this info we started our search. We were to cover the lakeshore from an old Boy 5cout camp to a spillway on the eastern side of the lake. The team consisted of Keely Rogers Lynda Matikosh, Pat Hambel, and myself. It was a beautiful day with a good search area and we ran into several campers but nobody we ran into saw anything. By 10:30 we had reached the spillway and called into command post to let them know that we had completed our assignment and needed transportation back to the scout camp. Command quickly dispatched Amador S0 and their boat to come pick us up. On the boat ride we saw H20 searching an area on the lake.

Just when we were thinking that this might be a bastard search or the beginning of a long tough one, the boy was located on a road going from Bear Reservoir to Salt Springs. We got to 902 (our convoy ride), headed back in, debriefed, and headed back to Tahoe for a great lunch at Chris'. Thanks to everyone that went, again you did a great job.
