Girl, 13, Rescued from Eagle Falls
June 1999

On Tuesday, June 15, 1999, Tahoe-area SAR teams responded to a report that a 13-year-old girl had fallen off a cliff in the Eagle Falls area. The girl, a visitor from the Antelope area, had been hiking along one of the trails in the area in the afternoon when she slipped and fell about 25 feet, or two stories.

A bystander called 911 from a cell phone about 3:30 p.m. Tahoe SAR members responded and found the girl by 4:30. They treated her for minor head injuries and carried her out. From there she went to Barton Memorial hospital.

Eagle Falls is a popular hiking area with Tahoe visitors, and one of the routes into Desolation Wilderness. This incident was the first this season.
